Chidos Bar

"Chido's Bar is a small but "BIG" homestyle Mexican food spot.

In the arcades of Salamanca's Plaza Mayor, opposite the Central Market, we have a two-floor space.

The upper part of the venue was once used as a stable, featuring on its left side a relief mural handcrafted by Agustín Casillas, a renowned local artist from this city.

Going downstairs you will find the first room built, a cellar made of Villamayor stone with a vaulted ceiling, originally designed as a "fresquera" — a natural refrigerator. It was used to store grain and various foodstuffs. This room has a groove on its left side, a remnant of constructions that predate the Plaza Mayor itself, marking the beginning of a drainage tunnel several kilometres long.

Due to its stone and shape it is said to have perfect acoustics and, given its age, locals say that many important agreements were signed there — by businesspeople and by the magnificent University of Salamanca alike."
